“A relatively slow growing, evergreen species of bonsai, the Fukien Tea is considered a medicinal plant in the Philippines”. The leaves are used in the treatment of coughs, diarrhoea, colic, and dysentery. There is a legand associated with this healing power – Legends surrounding the Fukien tea tree recount the story of Kung Wei, a devoted peasant from Fukien province over 12 centuries ago. He trekked up a mountain to the altar of Goddess Kuan Yin, offering her tea as a daily devotion. When his wife fell severely ill with a stomach ailment, Kung Wei sought solace in prayer to the goddess, discovering a small tea tree upon his return, which he believed to be a divine gift. Brewing tea from its leaves brought relief to his wife, leading to her recovery and inspiring Kung Wei to distribute saplings of the tea tree to neighbouring villages as a remedy for digestive ailments, spreading the legend of its healing powers.

Species	The Oriental Tea Tree (Carmona microphylla) is a simple & elegant bonsai ideal for growing indoors. This bonsai has pretty white flowers during summer months & lovely green, shiny & waxy foliage. The leaves are unusually shaped & well proportioned. The leaves grow in neat clusters allowing the flowers and branch structure to be highly visible. A highly appealing & artistic bonsai.
